SWF International was founded by Dr. Nina Smart in 2004 for the purpose of eradicating Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). It operates both in the United States and in Sierra Leone to raise awareness, to protect young girls at risk, and to help FGM survivors. Programs supported by SWF International help educate both boys and girls, reduce gender inequality, and empower women and communities through non-violent culturally sensitive approaches developed at the grassroots.
